Our Story

Liz Hood founded InSignLanguage Ltd in September 2017 to support the Deaf Community with British Sign Language Interpreting services. An experienced technology entrepreneur for the past 25 years, she helped take a skincare technology business to a successful IPO.

Liz is motivated to provide accessibility that changes lives.

Her expertise and experience from successfully managing this business with Deaf staff and Sign Language Interpreters support her understanding of the challenges of the deaf community to deliver the highest standard of service to Corporations and Deaf people.

The InSignLanguage App launched in 2018 has created ease and simplicity around accessing qualified interpreters for the Deaf community instantly.

  • How can I start using the Video Relay Service?
    Getting started with the InSignLanguage Video Relay Service is easy: Choose a Plan: Browse our available plans and select the one that best fits your needs. Whether you require occasional use or unlimited access, we have options to suit everyone. Sign Up and Purchase: Once you’ve chosen a plan, complete the purchase through our secure online platform. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your account details. Access the Platform: After your account is set up, you’ll gain immediate access to the InSignLanguage VRS platform. Simply log in with your credentials on a device with a camera and internet connection. Start Calling: Once logged in, you can begin making calls. Our user-friendly platform ensures a seamless experience, and our interpreters are ready to assist you in real-time. Need help with setup or choosing the right plan?   • What is Video Relay Service (VRS)?
    VRS is a communication service that allows Deaf individuals to make phone calls using British Sign Language (BSL). You connect with a sign language interpreter through a video call, who relays your signed messages to the hearing person on the phone and interprets their responses back to you.
  • Who can use VRS?
    VRS is designed for Deaf individuals who use BSL as their primary language and wish to communicate with hearing people who do not know BSL. Whether you’re contacting a business, a service provider, or a personal connection, VRS makes the conversation accessible.
  • Where can I use the service?
    Our service is based and operated from the United Kingdom. The InSignLanguage App is initially available Monday to Friday from 08:00 – 18:00 however due to popular requests, we will soon be rolling out on a 24-hour basis.
  • Do you book qualified interpreters?
    Without a doubt. All British Sign Language Interpreters we provide are fully qualified and registered with the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD). Fully qualified interpreters hold a yellow photo ID badge, while trainee interpreters hold a purple photo ID badge.
  • Are the video calls recorded?
    Yes, as part of our aim is to deliver a high-quality service, we have found it useful to record all calls and keep them for a minimum of six months. This is so we can continue to improve our service and protect users in the event of a dispute. All recordings are subject to UK data protection law.
  • What are your service costs?
    We work with various clients who have different funding streams available to them, one of the main one being Access to Work. If you would like more information on these costs, get in touch with us. Also, if you are interested in an organisational or personal package, we are more than happy to tailor a bundle of minutes to compliment your communication needs. Just get in touch.
  • What is your GDPR policy?
